Ammalife’s student branch
Since the start of the new academic year, Ammalife’s student branch at the University of Birmingham has been busy planning a series of events for 2016. Spurred on by the overwhelmingly positive response from students at the fresher’s fair and the Ammalife ‘meet and greet’, the group have planned even more fundraising events this year – mostly evolving around cakes, students love cakes!
They are also keen to increase awareness about global maternal mortality and why a charity such as Ammalife exists and have organised a four-part lecture series. The group recently spoke to Alex Sembo via Skype from Malawi, learning more about his work on obstetric fistulas, a debilitating and dangerously common condition due to labour complications.
